Shared Destiny

We are motivated unto mission by the promise of eternity. The future creates both an urgency and anticipation in the present.

We are Better Together because we have a Shared Destiny. There is something powerful about our shared eternal home that inspires us toward a common vision, challenges us toward missional unity, and motivates us to run the race together with endurance. Additionally, as we draw near to the heart of the Father, we experience a kind of holy discontent as we consider the eternal fate of those still outside the family of faith. This gives us a loving compulsion to further participate in His mission. As we think of a glorious eternity with the Lord Jesus, we should be asking: “What can we accomplish together before the return of Christ that we could not accomplish alone?”

Furthermore, as our attention is captured by the prospect of heaven, we remind one another to keep our eyes on things above (Colossians 3:1–2) and on the things of the Spirit, which produce lasting life (Romans 8:5–6)—not to be distracted by the things of this earth that so often divide us. Perhaps there has never been a more important time to come together in unity around our Father’s mission.
